Welcome back after the Christmas break. The children have all settled quickly back down into the school routine, however please don’t hesitate to come and see us if you have any concerns or worries.
Theme this Half Term
Continuing with the implementation of our creative curriculum whereby the children are taught key skills, knowledge and understanding in all subjects through a theme, Key Stage 2 are planning a trip back in time. We will be investigating the way that life in Britain has changed from prehistoric times to the present day. The children will continue to develop their learning in a meaningful way and have fun at the same time!
Literacy
This half term we will continue to teach Literacy skills as a discrete subject making links to our theme when appropriate. We will be studying various poetry forms, looking at aspects of narrative writing culminating in the children writing their own descriptive historic settings and stories.
Numeracy
The units will build on the work from last term and will include looking at the following 5 areas of work
*Counting, Partitioning and calculating.
*Securing Number facts, Understanding shape.
*Handling data and measures.
*Calculating, measuring and understanding shape.
* Securing number facts, relationships and calculating.
History
This half term we will have a strong historical focus whereby the children will develop their chronological awareness, investigate how various forms of historical evidence are interpreted in order to discover facts and identify changes in the way of life for people in Britain through the ages.
Art/DT
In Art and DT this term the children will be researching and replicating art, craft and design in a range of styles and traditions specific to the periods of time being studied. They will be using a variety of skills including painting, joining materials, and evaluation.
Science
In Science we will be learning about electricity and sound.
ICT
In ICT the children will be learning how to prepare powerpoints for group presentations to their peers, completing various simulations as well as continuing to use the internet as a research tool.
P.S.H.E
Our focus for learning in PSHE is Going for Goals. This will focus on making children aware of how to achieve successes in their own learning, as well as looking at situations and making choices that are appropriate for success to take place.
P.E
We will be learning and practising a range of games skills, in addition to the study of various historical dance forms.
R.E
The children will be learning about the life of Jesus and comparing various aspects of Christian religions in the neighbourhood.
The above subjects will be supported with the use of ICT software as a teaching and learning tool where possible.
