Katherine strikes Gold!

When Katherine Grattage, only our second student ever to have completed their Duke of Edinburgh gold award, received her invite to St James Palace, no-one could have been more surprised and delighted to be asked to accompany Katherine and her mum than our own Archie McGhie! Co-ordinator of the Duke of Edinburgh programme, Mr McGhie was quite overcome with pride, giving him a great opportunity to not only share in Katherine’s fantastic achievement, but also wear his kilt and meet the Duke of Edinburgh himself!

Katherine worked extremely hard to gain this extremely challenging award, dedicated months of voluntary service, learning new skills and successfully undertaking an expedition in wild country.  Having left Sandown in July, she is currently taking a GAP year before going on to university. Well done Katherine and we wish you every success for the future.

If anyone is interested in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, please see Mr McGhie, Mr Apsey or Ms Burton.
