A-Level Results

Congratulations to the many successful students in all year groups who took GCSE, A Level and vocational examinations this summer. Thank you to all staff and parents for all the hard work and support needed to help our young people achieve success.

Our A Level results were particularly strong this year; 22% of grades were A’s and 69% A-C. In terms of the value added for GCE this was our best ever year and in terms of raw scores the results are well above the Island average and the National average for comprehensive schools. BTEC results in Sports Science and Dance were outstanding with almost all students receiving a distinction, equivalent to 3 or 2 A Levels at A grade.

In years 9 and 10 a number of students took GCSE and vocational qualifications and the results were very encouraging. We hope this early success will inspire them to work even harder in the future.

In our Year 11 results, some subjects did exceptionally well. Within our specialist areas 61% of all students achieved two A*-C grades in Science and in PE over 70% of entries were A*-C. Overall Year 11 results were, however, disappointing this year with 39% achieving 5 A*-C with English and Maths and 52% 5 A*-C. It was very pleasing that almost every student left with A*-G in English and Maths and that many of those with special needs achieved very credible results.

There were a number of key factors in the relative underperformance at GCSE which we hope have now been addressed. Staff need parental support and involvement and any parents, especially with children in Year 11, are encouraged to contact us if you have any concerns, questions or suggestions.
