Young Chamber Annual Awards 2010

Cowes Yacht Haven, Thursday 13th May

A fabulous  event was organised to provide students with an opportunity to join together with Island business people to recognise some of the successess of Young Chamber over the past year.

For Sandown High School students Michael Chard and Sophia Moule it was particularly rewarding as they achieved trophies for:

Michael Chard – Highest Individual Achievement at the Navigate Solutions Challenge

Sophia Moule and Michael Chard were both in the Winning Team of the Young Chamber Challenge 2009/10

Saira Khan was the Guest Speaker at the ceremony. Saira Khan was the runner up in the very first The Apprentice series and has presented the children’s programme Beat the Boss.

She gave an inspiring keynote address pointing out that The Apprentice is not typical of real life and did not provide her with a key to success.  Hard work and confidence are the qualities needed for success in enterprise.

She advised the students that it is now they should be creating their own CVs that will stand out from the others.  It is taking part in out of school activities, such as Young Chamber, that students will be able to create their own opportunities in life.  “You have to bang on their doors, they will not come looking for you” was a point she emphasised to the audience.

Other students who made it to the Final Challenge comprised Lucy Cunnington, Mark Butcher, Jacob Cleary and Jack Goodinson.  They all deserve congratulations for their enterprising spirit.

Theresa Duddigan, Head of Business and Enterprise
