Health and Social Care


The Health and Social Care team consists of two full time and two part-time teaching staff. All are highly responsible professionals working extremely hard in all aspects of their job and are fully committed to raising student achievement. Staff  teach across a range of key stages which involves a variety of different topic areas, this allows staff to practise their own specialisms and also develop their expertise in other areas.

  • Health and social care is an optional subject and is covered in years 10 and 11 by a vocational GCSE and BTEC course covering Levels 1 and 2. In years 12 and 13 the department offers OCR National Diploma in Health and Social Care. All of the courses on offer allow students of all abilities to achieve their potential and this is the main aim of all the team members within the department.
  • The department is dedicated to vocational learning and this is reflected in the day to day running. Students are encouraged to develop independent learning skills that will prepare them for the future. Other activities also play a major part in the course and these include involvement in peer mentoring, ‘buddying system’ and millenium volunteers. Work experience is a compulsory and important part of the course across the key stages, and post 16 students also have the opportunity to gain extra qualifications in First Aid and Manual Handling.
  • The facilities consist of  2 teaching  rooms which are both equipped with computers.The department has TV/Video outfits and a range of teaching and learning resources. Health and social care is a growing department with curriculum links across many subject areas and has a forward thinking approach to the future of vocational education.
