Law
The course comprises 2 units and assessment is by 2 external exams.  There is no coursework.

Unit 1: Law Making and the Legal System
Section A
Students will study the sources of law including parliament, delegated legislation, statutory interpretation and judicial precedent.

Section B
This section looks at the criminal and civil courts, the work and role of barristers, solicitors, judges, magistrates and juries.

Unit 2: The concept of Liability
Section A
An introduction to criminal liability procedure and sentencing.

Section B
An introduction to tort and liability in negligence.

AS Units:
Assessment is by 2 external exams.
Unit 1: 1 hour 30 minutes 50% of the total AS marks 25% of total A level marks

Unit 2: 1 hour 30 minutes 50% of the total AS marks, 25% of total A level marks

Students should be able to engage in simple analysis and evaluation of legal systems and procedures.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Students should be able to demonstrate good communication skills with at least a Grade C in GCSE English and a minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade C

EXTRA FEATURES:
Visit to local Magistrates’ and Crown Court.  Visiting speakers from the legal profession.

POSSIBLE  PROGRESSION:
The course provides an appropriate foundation for further study of law or related subjects in HE.  Useful also for students intending to pursue business careers.
